Natural draught jet type cooling tower works on water jet principal. In this system the required amount of water to be cooled is sprayed from top of the cooling tower through special jet nozzles. When water comes out of nozzles, it forces the air column in the downward direction of the cooling tower resulting in the low pressure zone inside of the cooling tower. Due to this process atmospheric air comes inside the cooling tower for the required heat transfer of the hot water to be cooled.

In simple terms: A forced draft cooling tower uses a fan at the base or side of the unit to push air into the fill, cooling hot water flowing downward. The fan works before the air contacts the hot humid fill – making it quieter and more accessible for maintenance.
In a forced draft cooling tower, the fan is positioned at the bottom or side of the tower and pushes air through the fill media. Hot process water enters from the top, flows down through the fill, and is cooled by the rising airstream. The cooled water collects in the basin below and is returned to the process.
Because the fan operates in the cool incoming airstream – rather than in the hot, humid discharge air – it runs cooler and generates less noise at the outlet. This is what makes the WJT Series ideal for indoor, basement, and enclosed plant room installations where noise and height are constraints.
Here is the cooling cycle step by step:
Step 1 – Hot water intake: Hot process water (from DG set, chiller, HVAC, or process equipment) enters the top distribution header of the WJT tower.
Step 2 – Air push: The centrifugal fan at the base pushes ambient air upward through the PVC honeycomb fill media.
Step 3 – Evaporative cooling: Hot water flows downward over the fills while cool air flows upward – the temperature difference drives evaporative heat transfer, cooling the water by 5–8°C depending on wet bulb conditions.
Step 4 – Drift elimination: FRP drift eliminators at the top capture water droplets carried by the airstream, minimising water loss.
Step 5 – Cooled water return: Cooled water collects in the FRP basin and is pumped back to the process equipment, completing the cycle.
The WJT Series uses a centrifugal fan with vibration isolators and a rubber anti-vibration mounting base, which significantly reduces structural vibration and airborne noise compared to axial fan induced draft towers. This makes it the preferred low noise cooling tower for hospitals, commercial buildings, residential complexes, and factory floors where noise complaints are a concern.
Unlike induced draft towers that discharge air vertically and require unobstructed overhead clearance, the WJT Series has a low overall height and side or top air discharge options – making it suitable for indoor installation in factory sheds, basement plant rooms, and enclosed equipment bays. Ducted airflow arrangements are available on request for installations requiring air intake and discharge through walls or roofs.
The casing, basin, fan cylinder, and drift eliminators are all manufactured from UV-stabilised, corrosion-resistant FRP. There is no painted metal in the air and water stream – no rust, no paint flaking, no structural degradation from cooling water treatment chemicals. FRP construction is standard on every WJT unit – not an optional upgrade.
All WJT Series units are fitted with IE2 or IE3 rated induction motors (415V, 3-phase, 50Hz), reducing energy consumption and qualifying for BEE energy efficiency incentives. Motor enclosure rating is IP55 as standard – fully protected against dust and water jets – suitable for outdoor installation where required.
High-surface-area PVC honeycomb fill media provides maximum contact between air and water with minimal air pressure drop. Optional splash fills or trickle fills in PP material are available for high TDS or high suspended solid water quality – common in Indian industrial water conditions.
